WHEN EMOTIONS SEEM TO GET IN THE WAY OF EFFECTIVE PROBLEM SOLVING?
In the moment of crisis, problem solving can be difficult, especially when
emotions are high. Feelings of rejection, hurt, frustration, anger,
shame, powerlessness, guilt &
fear can block effective decision making. In the midst of these emotions,
we can either lose our voice & go into a "flight pattern," or
over-vocalize & go into a "fight pattern". Here's how
you can find a more centered and assertive-voice:
Follow the Following Steps:
- Notice the Emotion
- Breathe
- Feel it & integrate it in your body
- Name it if you can
- Ask yourself What is the emotion about?
- Breathe
- Ask yourself What do I need to do or say?
- Breathe
- Listen to your inner wisdom
- Take action- follow your inner wisdom
Notice in the above process, breathing is
key. It is through the breath that we are able to integrate our logic
and intuition for greater wisdom.
